Vandalism Strikes Leaders Retreat

Multiple vehicles, primarily pickup trucks, were vandalized during the Leaders Retreat in Overland postPark. The vandalism was discovered Saturday morning.

The vehicle belonging to Ty Arneson, Junction City Area Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman, was vandalized. “I went out about seven o’clock  and my window was broken out in my truck along with the vehicle next to me, so I called police and started counting and I stopped counting when it got to 25 windows.”Arneson said the vandals primarily broke the windows out of trucks. “They flipped the console open. In my case they flipped the console open, and I can’t tell that they took anything.”

Arneson said hotel ( Sheraton Overland Park Hotel at the Convention Center )  officials vacuumed the glass out of his truck.

Junction City Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Weigand noted the trucks had driver’s side windows broken out. Some had nothing taken and others had important items taken.  He added hotel officials wanted to get victim testimony on the vandalism, take necessary pictures, and vacuum out the victim’s vehicles.
