Michael Henderson, 58, Hays, who was wanted out of Great Bend, was arrested early Monday morning after the Special Situation Response Team was called to assist on a welfare check at Sundance Apartments in the 1300 block of East 33rd.

According to Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler, officers were dispatched to the apartment at approximately 4 a.m. on a welfare check for a man thought to be suicidal.

During the investigation, Scheibler said, it was discovered Henderson was wanted on an aggravated criminal threat charge in Barton County. He was allegedly in possession of a firearm and possibly under the influence.
Occupants in the surrounding apartments were asked to evacuate their apartments.

When Henderson did not leave the residence, the SSRT team obtained a key and entered the apartment.

Henderson was arrested without incident shortly after 8 a.m.
