The Kansas State Woman’s Basketball team ran away with their season opener Friday night at Bramlage Coliseum winning 81-55 over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
The win marked the first for coach Jeff Mittie, who took over the program following 15 seasons at TCU. Mittie said that the win feels good.

“I think every year the first one, there’s always a lot of anxiety of just getting to that, but even when you take over a new program certainly,” said Mittie.
Kansas State had five players score in double figures, with three of those players coming in off of the bench. The bench added 41 points for the Wildcats. Coach Mittie mentioned that was good to see.
“You know we really could sub tonight, particularly on the front line and not have any drop off. That’s critical because we did have some foul trouble. We had some people who picked up two and three fouls early, and that was good to be able to go to the bench and have some quality production.”
The Wildcats will have two more home games next week against UMKC on Tuesday and Hampton next Friday, before finishing out the month in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico for the Hardwood for Hope tournament.
