The state of Kansas did increase funding for K-12 education in April, pleasing a state Supreme Court ruling stating that the state must adequately fund K-12 education.

Dr. Corbin Witt, Geary USD 475 Superintendent explained that he wants to make sure that the state continues to move in that direction, away from more cuts.
“Our state is required to provide a free and appropriate education to our students. I worry that sometimes we’re trying to move away from doing some of the things that will enable us to do that and to try and do the minimum,” says Witt.
Witt went on to say that if the school district is able to provide students with the skills to be successful members of society, it will help provide a better economic future for the state.
He is encouraging community members to support any education friendly legislation in the upcoming legislative session, by contacting your local legislators.
