The last full service gasoline station in Junction City will be closed in the near future. The owner

Jim Nixon, 75, and his mechanic Roger Longhofer, 73, are preparing to retire.
Nixon expects the business at 1201 North Washington to close within 10 days.
It’s the end of an era. Jim Nixon has been affiliated with the station for more than 50 years, and has owned it since July 1, 1965. He said it’s time to retire. It was a difficult decision. “I mulled it over quite awhile.”
Nixon remembers the customers over the years. “They’ve been great. People have traded with me, and all the businesses. Everything’s just been very nice.” Nixon said he worked for Phil Cummins before buying the station from him. On why Jim’s 66 continued as the only full-service gasoline station in town, Nixon stated, “Well just because of the number of customers that had never gassed their cars, and then we’ve got a lot of businesses that traded here. Didn’t want their employees running around smelling like gasoline so they just had us do it.”
For the next few days items will be moved out of the building, and the gasoline in the pumps has to be sold. A nearby building also has to be organized. The service station property is being put up for sale. Brown Real Estate and Auction Service is handling that process.
