As the conversation continues concerning troop reductions at Fort Riley Dr. Corbin Witt, Superintendent of Geary USD 475 is asking for the communities support of the military installation.
Of the roughly 8,500 students within the school district 61 percentÂ
are connected to Fort Riley in one way or another.
“Without Fort Riley USD 475 really is going to struggle,” says Witt. “It’s such a wonderful partnership that enables us to have things for all of our students in this community that we probably wouldn’t be able to have if we didn’t have that connection.”
The Department of Defense is currently conducting a supplemental programmatic environmental assessment to determine where reductions can be made. Community members have already been asked to send letters and e-mails in support of Fort Riley, that ended August 25th. A public listening session is still expected to occur at Fort Riley in the near future.
