Geary Community Hospital to Host Stroke Awareness Night

Geary Community Hospital is teaming up with USD 475 and the Junction City Fire Department to  host a stroke awareness night “Friday Night: Lights Out for Stroke” at the October 24 Junction City High School Blue Jay football game.

“With World Stroke Day approaching, this event is designed to raise gch logoawareness among our community and understand the risk factors and symptoms of a stroke,” stated Stephanie Stremming, GCH Emergency Department Nurse Manager.

“Time is crucial in the treatment of stroke. On average, every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke and every four minutes someone dies from a stroke,” said Stremming. “The earlier a stroke is recognized and the patient receives medical attention, the greater chance of recovery.”

Volunteers will distribute symptom recognition cards prior to the game and public service announcements about how to spot a stroke will be played throughout evening at the football game.
