Munson Prime Open for Business

A long line of Munson family Angus cattle production dating back five generations has led to the new Munson Prime upscale steakhouse at 426 Goldenbelt Boulevard in Junction City.

The Munson family has opened the steakhouse as an extension of Munson farms.

Deanna Munson told a grand opening audience Saturday about the long history of the family in the cattle raising business.  She referred to the CM logo that has been used where it can even be found on the back of some chairs in the steakhouse. “If you take all of the Munson’s that have lived in Junction City since 1869, all of them have been CM. ” She said the first one was Carl Munson, followed by Charles O. Munson,  Ralph Conrad Munson,  Charles E. Munson, and David Charles Munson.

Deanna Munson said the cattle herd was started in 1924. “And the genetics that allow us to do day in and day out prime level meat, is not something that happened in the last 10 years. It is something that has happened over many, many years.”

She stated most beef producers favor producing quantity, but the Munson family has always wanted to produce quality.

Munson Prime serves steak dinners Thursday and Friday evenings, Saturday and Sundays during the mid-day and early afternoon hours. Reservations are encouraged. In addition they serve farm style meals Monday – Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with no reservations required. You can purchase homemade ice cream inside the steakhouse, or via a drive through window. There is also a retail meat store on the premises.

Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Weigand told the grand opening audience Munson Prime raises the bar for dining in Junction City.
