Geary USD 475 Held 5th Annual Tech Fair Monday

Teachers in Geary USD 475 attended the 5th annual Tech Fair Monday at Junction City Middle School, where they learned more about the technology available to them and their students.

Linda Bongers, Coordinator of Library Media Services at Geary USD 475 jcmsexplained that during the fair the teachers teach each other different techniques of using technology inside the classroom.

“It’s things they’re doing in their class room and they are showing other teachers how to use it in their classroom, whether it’s a software app or just how they’re integrating some sort of subject content,” says Bongers.

The use of technology continues to grow and the school district is continuing to find new ways to implement it in the classroom. Recently the Board of Education did approve the purchase of new tablets for students in grades three through sixth that they can use both at school and at home.

Shawn Ryan, 5th Grade Teacher at Lincoln Elementary School explained that he is really excited about the new tablets and being able to do more with his students.

“Because the thing that keeps us from having more integrated technology with everything is just the lack of access. By having the access for all of our students all day long I’m really excited about the things I can do. I have some different ideas, we’ll see how it works,” says Ryan.

The Tech Fair also covered items such as social media. Teachers are able to setup Facebook pages and Twitter accounts for their classrooms, as a way to connect more with both parents and students.
