GCH Pharmacy Improves Drug Disposal Process

Geary Community Hospital is taking steps to improve the disposal process of pharmaceutical drugs that are no longer able to be used in the hospital.

“Currently, we are meeting disposal standards, but we are looking to take it gch logoone step further for the safety of our employees and our environment,” stated Erick Carter, Director of Pharmacy.

GCH is working with Medi-Waste Disposal who has implemented a training program for all hospital employees, will conduct a quarterly review of processes to ensure correct disposal and pick up disposable drugs from GCH.

“Training will primarily consist of understanding the proper segregation for the different types of waste,” said David Kreller, owner of Medi-Waste Disposal.

The program is intended only for GCH pharmaceutical drugs, not public drug disposal.
