Every year Kansas State University recognizes the partnership with their neighbors to the west, Fort Riley and this year Fort Riley Day was held on Saturday during the K-State football game against Texas Tech.

Maj. Gen. Paul Funk, 1st Infantry Division Commanding General, was on hand to talk about the partnership between Fort Riley and the University. He explained that it’s important for both Fort Riley and KSU, as well as the entire region.
“For example we have a huge intern program where we get a lot of intellectual capital that comes out to the base, to help us really complex problems and the kids get college credit, it’s a perfect partnership,” explained Funk.
As a part of the activities Funk along with Division Sergeant Major Grinston and Lieutenant Colonel Lander and Command Sergeant Nibarger from the 1-28 Black Lions led the football team onto the field. The 1-28 Black Lions are the partner unit with the football team. The Big Red One band also played in unison with Dr. Frank Tracz’s Pride of Wildcatland Marching Band during halftime.
Kansas State went on to defeat Texas Tech 45-13.
