Students in Geary USD 475 will be participating in the annual Bramlage Family Walk-a-Mile Day Friday throughout the day.
The event is put on by the Geary Community Healthcare Foundation, USD 475
and the Bramlage Family Foundation.
Jill Nelson, GCHF Administrative Assistant explained that they started the walk in order to encourage students to get outside and exercise.”To show them that healthy lifestyles are easy, and that it’s as simple as going outside and going for a walk. The idea is that we’re encouraging students to be active and to be healthy.”
Parents and community members are encouraged to attend and walk with the students.
There are some incentives to walk as well, each student and adult who walks can enter into a drawing for a number of prizes. Each school will draw for two prizes. Grades K-2 will draw for a Razor Scooter, and grades 3-5 will draw for a new bicycle. Following those drawings each name will go into a grand prize drawing for an XBOX 360 with Kinnect and two games. Adults will have the chance to win a Fitbit Flex Band.
