WEATHER

What is the hazard, how big?  Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and this evening across east central Kansas.  Any storms that develop in this area will have the potential for hail, damaging wind and tornadoes too.  It appears that the tornado risk exists in the area outlined in the orange/pink shading below.  Additional severe storms are expected to develop across north central Kansas after sunset and those could form into a line and move across north central into northeast Kansas toward midnightwith damaging winds and heavy rains/minor flooding being a threat with those storms.

Timing    Severe storms will develop in the orange shaded area between 3pm and 5pm.  They will impact that oranged shaded area in the 3pm to 10pmtime frame.  Other storms could develop out west of Concordia after sunset and could form into a line and impact north central Kansas toward or aftermidnight with damaging winds.  Those storms could impact the rest of the area after midnight with some risk for damaging winds and heavy rains.

Location   Orange shaded areas indicate the greatest risk for severe storms including where a risk for tornadoes exists.  The yellow shaded area indicates where a risk for winds and heavy rains would exist from storms after sunset tonight.

Forecaster confidence  Moderate confidence that severe storms will develop in the time frame and locations outlined above. Chad Omitt-KC0QBX Warning Coordination Meteorologist National Weather Service Topeka
