It is getting close to the time of year when deer can get into their rut, and become more of a

problem on area roadways.
Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf said the rut is the mating season for deer. “Now this is a bit early, but it does need to be put out there so that folks are aware of it, and they can start watching how they drive.”
Wolf confirmed in mid to late October it gets more serious, and the peak is in the first few weeks of November. “Again, this isn’t an exact science. It’s kind of weather related. If the weather stays warm then the rut kind of holds off until the weather gets a little cooler.”
