Kansas State Rolls to 58-28 Victory over UTEP

The Kansas State Wildcats rolled past the UTEP Miners Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium 58-28 and put up 451 total yards of total offense.

The Wildcats went to the air for the majority of those yards with Jake Waters completing 10-15 for 209 yards and Joe Hubener going 3-4 for 54 yards.

Tyler Lockett led the receivers with 84 yards receiving on four catches, increasing his total career receiving yards to 2,469, KSU V UTEPjumping from fifth to third place in school history and passing his uncle, Aaron (2,400; 1998-2001). Aaron was did visit Kansas State on Thursday and Lockett said during a post-game interview that the record was brought up during the visit.

“He brought it up, but it wasn’t really to much to talk about. He was just like you’ve got ten yards, and it was just one of those deals were he was like, I can’t believe you are going to pass me up,” said Lockett.

Lockett is 343 yards shy of passing Jordy Nelson for second place, and remains 563 yards shy of passing the all time career receiving leader, his father Kevin Lockett.

Defensively Kansas State shut down a second offense that boasted one of the nations best rushing attacks, averaging 314 yards per game on the ground.

“I was very pleased with the way we had, in the first half we had five consecutive three and outs. I mean you can’t get much better than that,” said Coach Bill Snyder. “I told them on the sixth possession, sixth and last possession of the first half they got a first down, and I told our players, I’m kind of glad that happened because it gave me something to complain about when I got in the locker room at half time, otherwise I would have been speechless.”

The win wraps up non-conference play for the Wildcats as they now begin to prepare for a Big 12 showdown with Texas Tech at Bill Snyder Family Stadium next Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. kick off. The Red Raiders will be coming into the game following a 45-35 loss on Thursday night to Oklahoma State and a 49-28 loss to Arkansas the week before.
