That team is comprised of Ken and Brandon Dillon, Kenny Ziegler, and Lance Custer. They also captured first in the chicken and brisket divisions of the competition. Custer said they like their brisket the best. They take their time barbecuing that brisket. “Low and slow. That’s all I can tell you. ” They spent the entire night in Heritage Park working on their product.

Goodwood BBQ won $400 for the overall top prize, and $250 apiece for winning the chicken and brisket categories.

They barely edged out Melton in Your Mouth BBQ of Junction City in the overall competition, 530 to 523 points.  Rainbow International was the sponsor over the overall and division competitions.

Melton in Your Mouth, Derrick Melton, Mike Anders, and Terry Bohanan,  captured first place in the Ribs and Pulled Pork divisions, and received $250 in each of those brackets. They were also the winner of the People’s Choice award where the public purchased and tasted pork prepared by the contestants. That award, sponsored by Acorn’s Resort, had a cash prize of $155.

There were six teams entered in the barbecue contest at Jammin In JC this year. Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director Connie Hall would like to see the event grow in the future. “The money pot is getting up there. It’s a lot of fun. We follow the Kansas City Barbecue Society’s rules very strictly. “
