The latest blue green algae tests at Milford Lake produced surp;rising results this week.
The entire lake is back under a “Warning” advisory for the next week.
The Operations Project Manager for the Corps of Engineers R. J. Harms said there’s a pattern where it seems like the lake gets a little better, and then a lot worse. “The numbers this week were actually surprising.” Harms added records for cell counts were set three weeks ago at the north end of the lake. “This week, couple of those site at the Timber Creek and the Wakefield boat ramp came back five times higher than that.”
Harms noted it doesn’t appear the algae is really widespread in the lake, but looks like it’s concentrated along the shoreline. “But the numbers we saw in the cell counts and the toxin levels both are cause for concern, and that’s why they put the lake back under a lake-wide warning.
In a warning boating and fishing are still allowed at Milford Lake.
