Barbecue Set Up for Jammin in JC

The contestants in the barbecue competition at Jammin in JC set up Friday afternoon on the fifth street side of Heritage Park in downtown Junction City.

Connie Hall, Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director said there will be a cook’s meeting at 5 p.m. and then the contestants can begin preparing their entry. The judges will meet at the Presbyterian Church adjacent to the park on Saturday, with turn-in of the barbecued meat due at 11 a.m.

“Also this year there is a People’s Choice contest that will be run right off of the gazebo.”

Hall confirmed there are four categories of entries….brisket, pork, ribs, and chicken. There are $250 cash prizes for the winners of each category and $400 for the grand champion, as well. There is also a cash prize for the winner of the People’s Choice.  Trophies are awarded in all categories and a medallion for the People’s Choice.

The number of entries only totals six this year, meaning it’s possible five of the six entries could win a cash prize. The winners will be announced at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The bands for Jammin in JC begin playing at 5 p.m. Friday and continue through the evening. They then resume at noon Saturday, continuing through the afternoon and evening.
