It has been five months since Gerald Smith resigned as the City Manager of Junction City. In that time Cheryl Beatty, Assistant City Manager and Finance Director has been acting as the Interim City Manager.
Due to the fact that Smith’s resignation came as the city was beginning it’s budget process it was decided by the city commission to hold off on searching for Smith’s successor.
The budget was passed in August and the City posted the position three weeks ago according to Beatty. “We are getting applications in and about mid-October is when the deadline is for the close of that.”
Junction City is once again utilizing the Austin Peters Group in the search process. Beatty indicated that they have been told that five of the applicants so far have matched, “all of the preference qualifications that the city commission has done.”
The City Commission is hopeful to have the new manager selected by the end of the year.
