Geary County is continuing to work on the transition of the Health Department from both Junction City and Geary County operated to just County starting January 1, 2015.
Commissioner Ben Bennett explained that there is a number of items that need
to transition over to the Counties system such as the Health Department’s employee’s benefits. Bennett said that Lisa Eikholtz, Human Resources Director is suggesting that employee’s vacation time transition with them.
“It’s kind of, they’ve been county but they’re not county, they were part city, so there are some things that need to be concerned with sick leave, how they transfer that. What happens when they retire, and things of that nature,” said Bennett.
He went on to say that the Health Department has 25 employees that the County will be assuming full responsibility for. He added that those employee’s service time will also be transitioning with them and so it will not be like they are first year employees with the County.
