Attractions ranging from the static display of army vehicles to the sale of apple pies

drew the public to Fort Riley.
The occasion was the annual Apple Day celebration on post.
The president of the Fort Riley Historical and Archeological Society Julie Martin said the pie sales are the biggest fundraiser of the year for the HASFR organization. “We try to sell out of 2,000 pies every single year. All of our money we raise goes back in to and to preserve historic Fort Riley. ”
Last year the Society restored a 1940’s command car.” Martin also noted that they have done several projects within the museums on post including updating of their lighting, and they try to keep the Custer House operating.
Pie sales were strong on Saturday.
Martin said it took approximately 600 to 700 people to make the pies over a period of six days.
Other booths and tents featured the opportunity to get a flu shot, information on Irwin Army Community Hospital, and an appearance by the Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders who signed autographs and posed for pictures.
