The Junction City Blue Jays and Emporia Spartans battled to a 0-0 halftime tie at Al Simpler
Stadium Friday night.
Junction City came close to putting a touchdown on the board late in the second quarter, but could only get to the two yard line in the closing seconds of the half.
But in the third quarter Junction City scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Tanner Lueker to Xavier DeGuzman with 6:58 remaining in the period. Junction City would go on to score later in the ballgame on a Wayne Shirley field goal, and a 9-yard Jovan Baldwin touchdown run, while the Blue Jay defense pitched a shutout. The final score, Junction City 17 Emporia 0.
In the second half Junction City held Emporia to just 13 yards rushing, and the Blue Jays possessed the ball 19:38 compared to only 5:22 for the Spartans.
The Blue Jays, 2-0, play at Shawnee Heights next Friday. Emporia fell to 1-1 on the season.
