Sample results at four of five locations collected last Monday, Sept. 8, have indicated a marked improvement in the blue green algae cell counts in Milford Lake.
But R. J. Harms, Operations Project Manager for the Corps of Engineers said cell counts do remain at a level that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment will again recommend Milford Lake be placed under a lake-wide “Warning” status for the upcoming week.
Sample results collected at four of the five locations were still well above the warning level, but were considerably lower than the previous week.
Harms said with the cooler weather pattern that is being experienced, officials anticipate continued improvement in the results, and hope that they will be able to lift all restrictions in the near future.
Under a warning direct contact with the water such as swimming and jet skiing is prohibited, but boating and fishing are still allowed.
