Rich Webb has been the Facilities Director at Geary Community Hospital for just over two months now. Tuesday night he presented a facilities update to the Hospital’s Board of Trustees.
In the update he listed 15 areas of concern around the hospital with his
biggest concern being the retaining wall on the east side of the hospital. He explained that the wall it self is beginning to failĀ and there are a number of utilities next to the wall that would be in jeopardy if it gave way.
“You have some serious utilities over in that area, you have a natural gas connection to that side of the building. You have two high power transformers. You have an HVAC system right out there that is cooling Alphacare and the emergency department, and part of Medical Arts I,” said Webb.
Webb has asked Gustafson Concrete of Junction City to provide an estimate for fixing and or replacing the wall. That estimate has not yet been returned. He does hope that they begin and finish the work by the end of the year.
Other areas of concern for Webb included a medical gas storage shed that is leaking and is non-compliant storage, the kitchens hood ventilation which is outdated and considered a fire risk, the mechanical room roof which leaks, two air handling units that are original to the building and often leak.
The Board of Trustee’s did acknowledge that they are aware of a number of his concerns and there are plans to repair a number of those items over the next two years.
