Emergency Manager’s Conference in Junction City

The Kansas Emergency Management Association will hold their 47th annual conference this week at the Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center in Junction City.

KEMA is comprised of emergency managers and associates from local, state, and federal emergency management agencies. More than 150 members will be in attendance for the conference. In addition 34 vendors will be on site showcasing their products and services.

Tuesday ( Sept. 8 ) Pre-Conference activities will include a trip to Ft. Riley and lunch at one of the dining facilities on post. The day will conclude with golf and shooting sports tournament, and a cookout at Milford Lake.

On Wednesday Dr. Tom Phelan of Vernon Center, NY will deliver a keynote addres on ” Emergency Management and Community Based Incident Management Teams.” Thursday’s keynote speaker is Jeb Lacey of Victoria, TX speaking on “Crisis Communications-A Full Spectrum Look at Lessons Learned.”

Numerous breakout sessions are planned during the week.

Geary County Emergency Management Director Garry Berges is the current President of KEMA. During the Thursday night banquet, Vaughn Lorenson of Stanton County Emergency Management will move into the President’s position.
