The Geary County Commission has agreed to allow the use of $127,000 in Economic Development Commission carryover funds to hire an additional person for economic development recruitment.

Commissioner Ben Bennett said, “It’s been decided that we really need to step up our economic development activities.”

Bennett noted there have been some successes. “And they’ve done some things. If you stop and look in the last two years we’ve opened some new businesses. CVS ( Pharmacy ) came here, there’s a lot of work going on with the other communities in the regional planning and that come out of some of that activity.”

Bennett indicated the proposal will still go to the Junction City Commission for their approval.
