State Representative Allan Rothlisberg has filed a complaint with the State Governmental Ethics Commission against fellow State Representative Tom  Moxley.

Rothlisberg alleges Moxley donated $8,500 to the Morris County Republican Committee, which exceeded the maximum donation allowed by $3,500. “And of course he was in violation of that, and Morris County was in violation of accepting that check.

Rothlisberg provided a copy of the paperwork for his complaint, including a copy of an Expenditures and Other Disbursements report for the Morris County Republican Committee.  That report showed their contribution of $500 to Rothlisberg’s opponent in the upcoming Republican primary election for the 65th District seat in the Kansas House, Lonnie Clark.

“Well, I don’t think first off that outside forces should be interfering in other statewide offices.”

Morris County is not in the 65th District.

 

JCPost.com contacted Moxley, who represents the 68th District in the Kansas House, and is running unopposed for reelection.  He confirmed there had been a mistake in the paperwork. “That has already been corrected by the parties involved, and the filing in fact will be corrected before the day’s out.”

Moxley explained he gave $5,000 from his campaign and $3,500 as a loan from his personal account. “Perfectly legal. He doesn’t have a leg to stand on.”

Moxley also noted the matter has been cleared with the Department of Ethics and stated, “There is absolutely no problem.”
