Its that time again for food, music, family fun and of course fireworks. Sundown Salute is here and Junction City is preparing for the events.

Carnival and city workers were hard at work getting ready for the events that will start on Wednesday ( July 2 ) at 5:00 pm at Heritage Park in downtown Junction City.

A crew from Sound Check, a company out of the Kansas City area, along with city workers, put up the stage Tuesday.

“We are looking at 8 to 10 hours to put the stage up, with a crew of about 12 people,” said Terry Long, Crew Chief with Sound Check, during the setup process.

According to Long the stage is 40 by 32 feet which is eight feet larger then the one used a year ago. The purpose of the stage being bigger is to help with inclement weather.

According to Ray Ibarra, Junction City Public works Director, City Workers  had to close off several streets to make room for all of the events that will will be taking place over the 4th of July weekend.

“The streets that are closed off are 6th St. from Washington to Adams, Jefferson from 7th to 5th St, 5th closed from Jefferson to Washington and 7th is closed off from Jefferson to Adams,” said Ibarra.

The events kick off Wednesday, July 2nd at Heritage park starting at 5 pm with the Clarabels Dance Studio performance and at 6 pm the hot dog feed which is free to the first 500 people. The christian music bands will start performing at 7 pm.

“We have two bands, Abandon and Mikeschair but before that we will have the  hot dog feed which is free to the first 500 people,” said Sharon Glessner, Sundown Salute Coordinator.

The new carnival, provided by Ottaway Amusements, will also be opening at 6 p.m..
