As the Fourth of July holiday nears one form of fireworks has been banned in Geary County, explains Sheriff Tony Wolf. “The one thing that we did ban this year were the Chinese Lanterns. ”

Wolf noted when you light them they expand light a hot air balloon. “And they glow as they fade off into the night sky. Those are a significant fire hazard so those did get banned this year in Geary County.”

On a separate point Wolf also noted fireworks are illegal on Corps of Engineers property. “So do not shoot your fireworks out at the Lake. Any Corps property, any State property out there, they are banned.”
