Geary Community Hospital began hosting a farmers market in their parking lot on Thursdays starting at the beginning of this month, and so far have exceeded expectations.
Harold Marion, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for GCH,
updated the Board of Trustees on the farmers market Tuesday during their regular meeting.
“We have had three weeks for it and looking for a fourth. We’ve seen an increase of both vendors and people there to buy. We feel like it’s got to be a good balance between the farmers and the buyers to succeed so we’ve been pushing from both ends,” Marion said.
When they first started they had about seven vendors and they are expecting to increase that to ten this Thursday.
“We’ve got everybody from produce, we have a beef producer and he feeds his beef oats and alfalfa so it’s supposed to be lower in cholesterol. We’re supposed to have a lamb vendor as well. We have baked goods, we’ve got cheeses. We’ve got a nice variety of products.”
Some vendors even sell tomato and pepper plants for people to take home and plant themselves Marion added.
He suggests that if you plan to attend the market, show up early because they have had vendors sell out two weeks in a row.
The market is held each Thursday from four to seven p.m. in the hospitals north parking lot.
