A public hearing was held Monday morning at the Geary County Office Building concerning the use of this years Byrne Grant funds shared with the Sheriff’s Office.
Larry Hicks, County Commission Chair explained that no one from the public showed up to the public hearing.
“We did not have any huge outcry or opposition to our Byrne Grant on today so the $18,000 in total that we’ll receive from the Byrne Grant to Geary County and Junction City, all of those funds according to Sheriff Wolf will be used for the operation and maintenance of our new command vehicle,” Hicks said.
The JCPD and Sheriff’s Office purchased the command vehicle in May and are still working on getting it outfitted the way they would like it. Sheriff Wolf did say that it is 100 percent operational though.
“It is up and running but we’re trying to get it in so that we can finish getting the radios programmed and all of the things that we want on it, put on it,” Wolf said. “Again this will be at no cost to any of the tax payers. This is all being down by, now the Byrne Grant and asset forfeiture money.”
The JCPD does get a majority of the grant money but does share it with the Sheriff’s office and has been used in the past to upgrade the computer system at the Sheriff’s Office.
