The 18th annual Juneteenth celebration in Junction City drew a good crowd to Heritage Park, despite the extremely gusty winds.
Junction City Commissioner Jim Sands explained two, and probably three canopies were lost due to the wind. But there was good food, live music, and other vendors present for the celebration.
Sands spent time on the dunk tank. Eventually he went into the water. “It was good.”
Gospel music was one staple along with other music during the program.
Juneteenth celebrates the time in 1865 when slaves in Texas first learned of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 freeing all of the slaves.
