Fort Riley Unveils New Formal Dining Space

At the Cantigny dining facility on Fort Riley there is a new formal dining space that has been dedicated to the 1st Infantry Divisions Medal of Honor recipients.

Last November CW2 Lakisha Singleton with the 2nd Brigade briefed Brig.Gen. Frank Muth on what she envisioned for the room at the Cantigny dining facility.

“We said hey, formal dining room, no body else has it, no body else on the installation has a separate room so it was easier to do here. He said lets go for it and that’s when the nerves kind of kicked in,” Singleton said.

Singleton picked out everything for the room from the tables, the window treatments, flooring and decorations. One of the walls is covered with picture frames of each “Big Red One” Soldier that has received a Congressional Medal of Honor.

“We kind of highlighted that on that one wall. I’m not going to overshadow it with a whole lot of designs and decorations. I just spoke to some of the family members, and their going to send us personal pictures, and more things memorabilia that we can put in the room and make it theirs because it belongs to them.”

The room will be used for formal dinners and or meetings. It does have a flat screen television that is set up for a visual teleconference system.
