WAKEENEY- Two people were killed in a Monday accident on Interstate 70 in Trego County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Pontiac passenger car driven by John Louis Smith, 17, Ottawa, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 one mile east of the Ogallah exit.
The driver lost control of the vehicle. It crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes and hit a 2007 Kenworth semi-truck driven by Dennis E. Bowers, 49, Cardington, OH., and a 2014 Nissan driven by Kevin K. Werner, 54, Derby.
Smith and a passenger in the Pontiac Alexis Woolsoncroft, 12, Ottawa were pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger in the Pontiac Alejandra Gutierrez-Pino, 17, Ottawa was transported to Hays Medical Center.
Bowers and Werner were transported to Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. Bowers was later transferred to Hays Medical Center.
The KHP reported all were properly restrained at the time of the accident.
