Fort Riley Kicks off Victory Week

Fort Riley has began to celebrate the 97 years of the “Big Red One” and the 239th birthday of the Army itself.

Victory week kicked off Saturday with live entertainment, food and a Fort Rileyfireworks show at Rally Point Field.

Unit athletic celebrations began on Monday with combatives, arm wrestling, and a truck rodeo hosted by the 1st Sustainment Brigade.

Tuesday’s events include a 10-miler qualifying run and boot camp for heroes. The boot camp is an obstacle-course style event open to all children from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Victory Park. It will allow children of Soldiers to experience eight obstacles, including low crawl, three-legged race, tire run, bean bag toss, balance beam, brick hop, hay bale jump and a tunnel run.

Tuesday wraps up with a No Dough Dinner for military families hosted by the USO Fort Riley. The dinner will start at 5 p.m. at Moon Lake.

On Thursday Fort Riley will add seven names to are added to the memorial at Victory Park. Those seven names are of Soldiers who died last year while serving with the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team and 1st Combat Aviation Brigade in Afghanistan.

Victory Week conclude June 13th with a division-wide run, Victory Cup awards presentation and the Victory Retreat ceremony.
