Golden Giants Top the Brigade

The Topeka Golden Giants scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning and then held off the brigade threeJunction City Brigade 4-2 at Rathert Field Sunday evening.

The Golden Giants also scored once in the first inning, while the two runs for Junction City came in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Dusty Mass and Jordan Hodges scored for the Brigade.

The Brigade 1-2 on the opening weekend of their season. Head Coach Shane Sieben said the pitching for the team has probably exceeded expectations. “First two days they came in and we scrimmaged we didn’t pitch very well, and we hit it really well so we were sitting there saying goodness,  we’re not sure if we’re going to be able to pitch it this year but we can hit it.” But Sieben noted the Brigade pitchers came out strong three days in a row. “We saw really good things out of them. ”

The Brigade will open a three-game series against the Midwest Athletics ( 3-0 ) from Peculiar, Missouri Monday night at Rathert Field.  Game time is 7 p.m.   Sieben reported that the Athletics swept a weekend series from the Rossville Rattlers.
