The 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team at Fort Riley Is Under New Command

Despite being delayed an hour due to Thursday mornings rain the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team went through with it’s change of command and change of responsibility ceremony.

Following two years as the “Dagger” brigades Commander, Col. Jeffery Broadwater handed over the reins to Col. Miles Brown Thursday.

“All the great things that were accomplished by the Daggers was due to the professional Soldiers that are represented on the field before you,” said Col. Broadwater. “Through their hard work and determination to make a positive difference every day, one BCT has influenced 30 countries and trained over 13,000 Soldiers that are deployed in  places like Mali, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic Congo.”

Under Col. Broadwaters command the brigade made history as the Army’s first brigade combat team to serve as a regionally aligned force. During the rotation “Dagger” brigade Soldiers deployed in two main teams or larger formations to more than 30 African countries on a wide range of multinational training exercises.

Col. Broadwater will now be assigned to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California.

Incoming Commander, Col. Brown explained his first step as Commander will be to bring all of the units back together as a Brigade. Currently the Brigade does have a few units still deployed over seas.

“Once those units get back we will bring everybody back together as a Brigade, and we will start to move forward on resetting our equipment, continuing to train, and beginning to work on war fighting excellence,” said Col. Brown.
