Fire – Police Respond to Call on McFarland

Firefighters and police responded at 6:26 a.m. Thursday to a call at the Larry Ruiz family residence at 1906  McFarland Road in Junction City.

Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Rook confirmed there were no injuries.

“Upon arrival we had light haze in the structure, and upon further investigation we found that the residents had suffered a lightning strike. We’re not exactly sure where it hit, but the damage was confined to the electrical meter box, and then a little bit of structural damage just adjacent to the meter box on the inside of the residence.  There was no active fire, the situation was brought under control quickly, and the property was turned back over to the residents.

Rook estimated the damage estimate would be under $1,000.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 40 minutes.
