On Tuesday night the Junction City amended the city’s current ordinance on fireworks.
The changes apply to when and where fireworks can be discharged. An
amendment was also added prohibiting the sale and discharge of aerial luminaries.
Krista Blaisdell, City Prosecutor, explained that under the amendment fireworks can still be discharged starting June 27th through July 5th but the time of day fireworks can be discharged is different.
“Basically having an 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, with the exception of the 4th of July, and then Friday and Saturday and the 4th of July from 8 a.m. to midnight,” Blaisdell said.
The discharge of fireworks on public property is now against the law as well.
Commissioner Cecil Aska was in favor of that change.
“The sad part about it is, I’ve been in parking lots where people won’t clean up. It even happens sometimes here at Sundown Salute, when I was involved with that, in the middle of the street they will light off a bunch of stuff and just leave all the debris and it’s just ridiculous,” Aska said.
Fireworks are also not allowed to be discharged within 300 feet in any direction of Heritage Park during the entire duration of Sundown Salute.
These changes will be in effect during this years 4th of July holiday.
