Fort Riley’s “Dagger” Brigade Will Hold Change of Command Ceremony Thursday

The 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, formally known as the “Dagger” brigade, will be holding a change of command ceremony Thursday morning.

For the past two years Col. Jeffery Broadwater has been leading the “Daggerfort riley logo” brigade, and on Thursday he will be handing over the reins to Col. Miles Brown.

Under Col. Broadwaters command the brigade made history as the Army’s first brigade combat team to serve as a regionally aligned force. During the rotation “Dagger” brigade Soldiers deployed in two main teams or larger formations to more than 30 African countries on a wide range of multinational training exercises.

Broadwaters successor, Col. Miles Brown commanded the last Artillery Battalion in Iraq, which departed in December of 2011. He also served six tours in southeast Asia during operations Desert Fox, Intrinsic Action, Desert Spring, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn and Spartan Shield.

The change of command ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday on the Calvary Parade Field at Fort Riley.
