Only Few Lots Sell at Tax Sale

Seven hundred vacant housing lots on the west side of Junction City were put up for auction taxduring a tax sale at the Geary County Office Building on Friday.

Four lots were all that sold in the sale of properties on which delinquent property taxes were owed.

Tony Wolf, Geary County Sheriff, didn’t expect many of the lots to sell. “Kind of figured that coming into this, but this is something that has to be done by statute before anything else can be done with these lots in the future.”

High special assessments owed on the lots is a key factor in the low number that sold.

Larry Johnson purchased three of the lots for housing development, and Bruce Johnson bought one to provide access to a landlocked piece of land.
