Fort Riley Middle School Held it’s Final Day Wednesday

Wednesday was the last day of school for students at Fort Riley Middle School.

The school closed two days earlier than originally scheduled in order toUSD 475 Logo give teachers and staff time to pack up their rooms and have them moved to the new school.

Joe Handlos, FRMS Principal explained that they hope to have everything packed and ready to move by the end of the day Thursday.

“Then we have a regular check out process were staff, myself, administrative staff, district administrative staff will go through the rooms and make sure that room is ready for the demolition.”

The plan is to begin moving on Tuesday May 30th.

“One of the things that is a big plus for us at this building, the 1st to the 5th Field Artillery will help us move,” Handlos said. “They are actually going to help us move over to the new building.”

Demolition of the old school is expected to be completed by the end of the first week of June. Crews will then be able to begin on the next phase of the construction project at the new school, adding a parking lot and football field and track were the old school currently sits.

The new school is expected to be completed by the end of July and ready for to open for the start of the 2014-2015 school year.
