Community veterans and motorcycle organizations have raised $10,000 of the $30,000 needed for a memorial in Junction City to honor veterans from all wars.
Steve Pringle, Project Coordinator, said Peterson Monuments and Design of Abilene will prepare the memorial. ” Which is saving us about $5,000. Parks and Rec and Public Works of the City stepped up and did all of our prep work at our site where we’re putting the Memorial. And they donated that so that saved us another $2,000.”
The Memorial will be located in Heritage Park in downtown Junction City.
With the funds that have been raised Pringle noted that Lynn Peterson will order the red marble for the Memorial from India, with arrival expected in four weeks.
If all goes well the Memorial should be in place in time for the POW / MIA ceremony the third Friday in September.
