badge formGeary County Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended a suspect Wednesday afternoon near mile marker 315 on I-70 after an earlier shooting in Manhattan.

Daeshawn Bryant, 18, Manhattan, was taken into custody. Sheriff Tony Wolf stated he had officers located in the eastern part of the County on K-177. “They overheard the radio traffic from Riley County on their scanner. Within about 10 minutes of the actual incident taking place the suspect vehicle drove past them on 177. ”  Officers followed the vehicle onto the Interstate and stopped it, and  Bryant was held until Riley County detectives could respond to the scene. Wolf confirmed Bryant surrendered without incident.

His arrest stemmed from a shooting at the Hop-N-Skip convenience store at 2233 Tuttle Creek Blvd. that was reported to the RCPD just after one o’clock on Wednesday.

Prior to the arrival of police, the victim, Dareen Starks, 23, Manhattan, was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Regional Health Center with a single gunshot wound to the stomach. He was later transported by air ambulance to another medical facility for treatment.
