Junction City will be hosting the State wide Local Emergency Planning Conference Tuesday through Thursday.
“This involves people that are first responders, hospital, government
officials, public works, anybody that might have to deal with any type of a hazmat situation,” said Garry Berges, Geary County Emergency Management Director. “These are the ones that pretty well work with the emergency plans.”
Geary County Emergency Management will be assisting with the training offered through the conference.
Berges said that the conference will be held at both the Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center and his office.
“The ones that are at the office will go down to the rail yard and will look at one or two special tank cars that are being brought in special for this class, they’re training aids.”
Wednesday and Thursday will feature different classes at the Convention Center.
The Kansas Department of Emergency Management is putting on the conference and Berges is estimating that around 100 and 125 people will be in attendance.
