Geary County Rural Fire was dispatched to 11737 Clarks Creek Road at approximately 7:15 a.m. Monday for a report of a possible grass fire.
Curt Janke, Assistant Rural Fire Chief said that when crews got on
scene they discovered two barns on fire. The cause of the fire is ruled undetermined.
“Both barns went clear to the ground, so there’s really not a lot to investigate,” Janke said.”We do have an eyewitness that puts the fire on the north east corner of the barn when he called it in.”
Janke said that the larger barn was two stories and roughly 60 feet in length and 40 feet in width.
Damage is estimated between $15,000 and $20,000. An older tractor and a straight blade saw was in the larger barn that was destroyed. The smaller barn had some hay in it.
The barns belonged to Rick Ziegler.
Geary County Rural Fire responded with two trucks and Grandview Plaza Fire responded with one. The State Fire Marshals office was called in to investigate.
