USD 475 3rd Graders to Participate in AG Day Friday

Approximately 800 third graders will be at the Geary County 4-H Fair Grounds Friday for the annual AG day presented by Geary County Research and Extensions.

Ginger Kopfer, County Extension Agent explained that the students will K-STATE RESEARCH AND EXTENSIONlearn about the agriculture industry through a number of programs taught by 4-H members and Extension Educational Unit members from Geary County.

“We have some inside displays that will teach them about growing corn, soybeans, and wheat. We’ll teach them about horticulture and a little about the 4-H program,” Kopfer said. “Outside we’ll have some animals, so they will get to see some cattle, sheep’s, goats, and some pigs and learn about them as well.”

The day will be split into two sessions. The morning session will be held from 9:15 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. for third graders from Fort Riley. The afternoon session will be from noon until 2:00 p.m. for the third graders from Junction City, Grandview Plaza, and Milford.

“We think that it’s an important event because kids a lot of times don’t know where their food comes from so you might think that you go to the grocery store to buy it but really it’s coming from a farm somewhere.”

AG day is held each year as an opportunity to create more of a connection between the younger generation and the agriculture industry.
