Despite cold and windy temperatures approximately 30 Kansas Legislators enjoyed a day of fishing at Milford Lake Monday.

The Kansas Legislative Sportsman’s Caucus held it’s 8th annual Larry Magill Sportsman’s Challenge at Milford Lake.
Representative Gary Hayzlett of Lakin, Ks has attended the event each year and said they’ve never had it anywhere else, “I think the reason that we do it here is because it’s very close to Topeka. The Legislative veto session will start on Wednesday, so it works good for those coming back.”
Not only does the event allow Geary County to show off it’s assets such as Milford Lake but it gives local leaders a chance to discuss items currently taking place in Topeka with the Legislators.
Geary County Commissioner Florence Whitebread discussed the elimination of mortgage registration fee’s with a group of legislators.
“You know their trying to take it off and the county’s want it kept on and so it’s kind of a battle right now. I see I’m on the downhill side because they really want to take it off but I’m still stressing we need to keep it. We need that money to supplement our taxes,” Whitebread said.
The event is sponsored by the Kansas Association and Insurance Agents and the Geary County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
