Celebrating Past Times

The two-day weekend Celebrating Past Times event sponsored by the Geary County Historical Society kicked off Saturday.celebrate two

Part of the focus was on the Spring Valley School site on the west side of Junction City. There was a demonstration school program inside that facility, explained Moppin on Saturday. “It’s about 45 minutes long. Everybody who is in there is going to participate. Everyone gets a slate. They have a lesson they do. They learn spelling, punctuation, math.”

Wood splitting, laundry 1880’s style, and one-room log cabin life were among other activities.

Activities continue Sunday with a guided tour of the Starcke House featuring a re-enactor portraying Eunice Starcke, a presentation to the Eagle Scouts who painted the Spring Valley Historic Site buildings, and a Historic Toy Talk. Those are part of the Sunday afternoon plans at the Geary County Historical Museum and adjacent Starcke House in Junction City.celebrate threecelebrate one
