Board of Trustees Approves 2015 Hospital Budget

The 2015 fiscal year budget for Geary Community Hospital was approved by the hospitals Board of Trustee’s Tuesday afternoon.

Darren Rumford, the hospitals Chief Financial Officer explained that it was gcha long process but they are budgeting for a positive cash generated from operations of $753,000.

“There are other expenses like depreciation that come into play also but in terms of cash generation that’s what is in our budget,” Rumford said.

There are still challenges ahead for the hospital concerning financial challenges related to healthcare reform.

“Obamacare has certainly changed the environment a little bit, but Obamacare is not the problem,” Rumford said. “It was an attempt to solve the problem, the problems of financial struggles in healthcare. We along with a lot of other providers are having to go through and evaluate how we adapt to these challenges.”

Adapting to those challenges will force the hospital to continue to find ways to boost revenues and control costs.

The hospitals fiscal year runs May 1 through April 30th.
